FALL 2022
Auditions for the spring semester concert ensembles will begin on Monday, November 14.
Students will audition during their band classes. Required etudes are posted on Charms. All
students enrolled in a spring semester ensemble must audition.
The audition will consist of three segments; the prepared etude, scales, and sightreading.
Information about each segment is below.

- Face, hands, and instrument must be visible in the video.
- You do not have to perform with a metronome, but you are certainly welcome to.
- Please check the audio quality of your video before submitting. Don’t jeopardize your score by submitting a video with poor audio quality.
- The deadline for submitting your video is Sunday, November 6, at 11:59pm.
- Follow this link (or scan the QR code) and submit your video to the appropriate topic for your instrument:

SCALES
- Scales (12 majors, related arpeggios, and the chromatic) will be performed in person in the band office.
- Flutes and clarinets will perform all scales two octaves. All other instruments will perform scales one octave.
- The chromatic scale is two octaves for all instruments.
- All scales must be performed from memory.
- Flutes and clarinets will have a 5 minute time limit to perform all scales. All other instruments will have 3 minutes to complete all scales.
SIGHTREADING – All brass and woodwind students auditioning will sightread. Some tips to
improve your sightreading:
- Always start with a tempo in mind. Mentally count yourself off before you begin.
- In addition to notes and rhythms, be sure to pay attention to all dynamic and phrase markings. Musicianship and expression is oftentimes the deciding factor when scores are close.
- Do not stop and ask to start over.
